El Lucero
The Spanish mango season runs naturally from August to November, taking advantage of the unique subtropical microclimate along the coastal strip between Almuñécar, Motril and Salobreña. It is the only territory in Europe with the right agronomic conditions to produce premium-grade mango.
At El Lucero our season opens in late August with the Osteen variety, which reaches its peak ripeness on the branch and remains available until mid-October. From early October the late-season Keitt starts to come in, a larger and juicier fruit that extends the calendar all the way to the end of November.
Outside this window we don't sell mango because we don't store mango in chambers or import from other countries. If you want to secure your box before the crop runs out, we open pre-orders from June for the following season. You can also join our notification list and we'll email you the day the season officially opens.
The key difference is not genetic or botanical: it's the time from branch to plate. A mango imported from Brazil, Peru or the Ivory Coast is picked green so it can survive three to five weeks in shipping containers and cold storage. During that journey it doesn't ripen in any gastronomic sense, it simply softens in ethylene rooms. The result is a mango that feels soft to the touch but never develops the complex sugars, volatile aromas and floral notes that make the fruit worth eating.
Our mango is harvested at its optimum point directly from the tree, packed the same day and delivered in 24 to 48 hours. All of the fruit's chemistry (sweetness, aroma, juice) has developed on the branch where it should develop.
On top of that, the Costa Tropical in southern Spain is the only territory in Europe with the climate to produce premium mango at scale: mild winters, warm summers, protection from the Sierra Nevada mountains. It's our small geographical secret.
Harvest-on-demand means we don't pre-cut fruit to fill a warehouse. When your order lands in our system, a member of the family walks to the grove that same day and hand-picks, piece by piece, the mangoes that are at peak ripeness. There are no pre-packed boxes sitting on pallets waiting for customers.
This model has two direct consequences. First, the mango keeps maximum freshness from the branch to your kitchen: it doesn't spend weeks in cold rooms or distribution centres. Second, every piece you receive is genuinely ripe, not just softened, because it completed its development on the tree right up until the last day.
The trade-off is that stock is neither infinite nor instantaneous. During peak season there may be 24 extra hours of wait before we go out to harvest your order. We flag this on the website when it happens: we'd rather you wait one more day than ship you a mango that isn't quite there yet.
Standard delivery to mainland Spain is 24 to 48 hours from harvest. A typical sequence looks like this: you order today in the afternoon; tomorrow morning we go to the grove and hand-pick your fruit; we pack it that same day and hand it to the courier; 24 to 48 hours later the courier knocks on your door.
Any order placed before 15:00 is harvested and shipped the next day. During peak season, from August to November, when order volume multiplies, there can be an extra 24 hours of wait before harvest.
When you confirm your order you receive a tracking number by WhatsApp or email, so you can see in real time where your box is on the road. If you need a specific delivery date — a birthday gift, for example — mention it at checkout and we'll schedule the harvest accordingly.
The price you see on the shop page is the final price you pay. Every box includes shipping to mainland Spain at no extra cost: no checkout surprises, no handling fees, no minimum spend to unlock free delivery. A 2 kg box at €19.95 means exactly €19.95 on your bank statement, and a courier at your door in 24 to 48 hours.
We ship to mainland Spain only. We don't ship to the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla because the logistics would push the mango outside its optimum freshness window. If you live in any of these regions and want to explore a bespoke solution, drop us a WhatsApp message: we assess each case individually depending on volume and logistics.
For a first order we almost always recommend the 2 kg box. It comes with four to six hand-selected pieces, enough for one or two people for about a week, and it lets you test whether the taste difference is worth it for you personally without committing to a large volume of fresh fruit.
If you're a household of three or more, or you're ordering to share at a dinner or family gathering, the 4 kg box is the catalogue's sweet spot: eight to twelve pieces, better price per kilogram than the 2 kg, and enough fruit to enjoy over two weeks without any going to waste. It is our best-selling format, and returning customers usually stick with this size.
Payment is made by Bizum or bank transfer. We don't have our own online checkout: when you click buy on any box we redirect you to our official WhatsApp, where we confirm availability, agree the payment and walk you through the order personally.
This model is a deliberate choice: it lets us keep prices tight without absorbing the cost of running a full payment gateway, and it gives us flexibility to adapt every order to individual circumstances (scheduled deliveries, multi-address shipments, B2B volumes). Many customers actually prefer the personal contact over an anonymous checkout.
No bank card details are requested or stored on the website: payment is always arranged directly and securely with you.
We have two notification channels, and neither floods your inbox with commercial spam. The first is our email list: you sign up with your address and we write two or three times a year at key moments, mainly when the season opens in August, when the Keitt variety comes in from October, and when pre-orders open in June for the following campaign.
The second channel is WhatsApp, available for customers who have ordered at least once and prefer more direct contact. Through WhatsApp we share occasional updates such as special lot availability, end-of-season warnings or farm news. It is strictly opt-in: we never add customers without their explicit permission.
You can also follow the farm's official Instagram account, where we post real photos of the harvest in progress, the trees, the Costa Tropical landscape and the day-to-day of the crop. It's the least intrusive channel and the one that gives the best sense of what the product really looks like before you order.

The season moves fast. When the crop runs out, the next mango waits until August. Boxes from €19.95 with shipping included in mainland Spain.
Pay by Bizum or bank transfer, directly with us on WhatsApp. Reply within two hours during business hours.
We notify you when the tree-ripened mango season begins. No spam, just a few times a year.
